When I was pregnant with Connor and we found out he was going to be a boy one of my first thoughts was "no clothes war." I was excited that I was going to be able to pick out his clothes and we would have no fights he would just put them on and things would be great! BOY WAS I WRONG! WAY WRONG!
Before Connor started school it was not bad he would pretty much wear whatever was laid out, but as he has gotten older and now that we have started school our ideas of what he should wear to school are very different. Connor wants to wear clothes that "make him fast." This includes workout shorts, sweat pants and t-shirts, hooded sweatshirts and zip up hoodies. I have a little bit different idea of what should be worn. Last year I tried to enforce the rule - at least 2 days a week he would wear "nice" clothes which would be jeans, polos, khaki shorts, etc. The other days, especially practice days he could wear his "fast" clothes. That seemed to work okay, but this year is a completely different story, and yesterday things came to a boil.
Yesterday was western day and Connor was very excited about wearing his boots to school. I was very excited because I could dress him in jeans and possibly even a polo. I went and woke him up and pulled his boots out. He jumped up and went to the bathroom and when he came back I had his jeans laying on the bed - MELT DOWN!!! Connor threw himself on the bed in tears - "I don't want to wear jeans." Me - "Well, that is what you wear with boots, what were you thinking you would wear?" Connor - "sweatpants" Me - "No, we are not wearing sweatpants with jeans to school, you have to decide between wearing boots or wearing sweatpants, we are not doing both." At this point I was done and left the room. I went and told Jason the drama of the morning and he is of course laughing at me. About 5 minutes later as I am battling the 2 1/2 year old on shoes (another blog post) Connor comes in with sweatpants on, decision made.
All of this to say, please know if you see my son at school he does own jeans, khakis, polos, nice clothes, but after less than a year and a half after starting school I have given up the battle of him dressing nice at least 2 days and just try to make sure he at least matches when he leaves the house. THE JOYS OF LITTLE BOYS!
