A Week of Baseball

After a week off from baseball (kind of - we still had practice  just no games) we had three baseball games this week.  I am so amazed by the continued improvement every game.  The boys are doing really well. Connor is having so much fun.

Tuesday night we played the Braves.  We lost 6 to 5 but we almost tripled our run total from the last two games combined which means the boys were hitting the ball.  Connor had a great hit! The boys are also fielding better every game.

Friday night was a little rough.  We played the Giants and lost 14 to 0. I have to say one of the boys on the other team was taller than me with heels, CRAZY!  We could just not get our bats going.  Connor struggled at the plate.  He struck out and hit to the 1st baseman.  He also cried both times.  We are working on that and I pray by the end of the season we will conquor that problem.  In the field Connor had an amazing game.  The first he was playing short stop and caught a pop fly for the third out.  He was pumped. The last inning he was playing short stop again and caught another pop up and then touched second for a double play.  We were bummed we didn't win, but it is always fun to watch when Connor does well.  He had a big cheering section Friday night and at the end of the game he got the game ball!

I took the picture with my phone so the quality  is not great.

Saturday we had a MAJOR break through.  THE RAYS WON!  In fact they won big 8 to 2!!! It was great and very eye opening.  Up to this point we have been playing mostly 2nd grade teams and this game we played another mostly 1st grade team.  WIhile I love the challenge that playing boys a year older brings I forget that we are in the 1st grade and the boys are really above average for 1st grade.  Connor had another great game.  He went two for two at the plate. He had the shortest triple anyone could possibly have - we have never laughed so hard.  We called it a tape measure triple.  The ball did not even make it off the dirt towards the pitchers mound and the pitcher and catcher just stood there.  Connor was at third about to go home when the catcher decided to stroll out and pick up the ball.  Connor played some great 2nd base today and through a guy out.  He also tagged a guy out while playing short stop.  Connor was the relay man and the kid was trying to get an extra base.  All the boys did great and it was fun to watch how excited they were to win their first game.
